Rafik A. Aliev was born on February 10, 1942 in Novruzlu Village of Agdam region in Azerbaijan.
1948-1958 A pupil of a secondary school (Agdam).
1958-1963n A student of the Institute of the Oil and Chemistry named after M.Azizbayov, Baku.
1964-1967 A post-graduate student, the Institute of Control Problems of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (Moscow).
1967 The candidate of Technical Sciences (Ph.D).
1975 Doctor of Sciences.

1989 Membership of Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences.
1967-1969 The head of the Laboratory in Research Institute Neftkim¬ya¬avtomat (ETI).

control both in our country and also in several foreign countries. He has been a supervisor of more
than 130 candidates and 30 doctors of sciences in Azerbaijan, Russia, Germany, USA, North Cyprus,
Iran and other countries. Nowadays, his students faithfully continue the traditions of his scientific school not only in Azerbaijan, but also in foreign countries (USA, Germany, Iran, Turkey, Russia etc.)
The member of International Program Committees in more than 40 conferences held in USA, Germany, France, Canada, Turkey, Russia, Spain, Italy, Finland and other countries of the world.
Under the leadership and with the participation of R.A. Aliev the following International Conferences are held:
•International Conferences on Application of Fuzzy Systems an Soft Computing, (starting from 1994, every other year in a number of European countries)
•World Conferences "Intelligent Systems for Industrial Automation" (starting from 2000, every other year in Tashkent, Republic of Uzbekistan,)
•International Conferences on Soft Computing and Computing with Words in System Analysis, Decision and Control (starting from 2000, every other year in Antaliya, Turkey)
R.A.Aliev has published over 370 research papers. Also he has published 70 books on Control Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Fuzzy Logic and Soft Computing in the USA, Germany, USSR, Russia, Iran, Azerbaijan and other countries. R.A. Aliev held a number of visiting appointments, among them a visiting professorship at Tabriz University (1992-1994) and Georgia State University, USA, GA, Atlanta (1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008); a visiting scientist appointment at University of Siegen (Siegen, Germany, 1990, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008)
Prof. R.A. Aliev’s famous book “Soft Computing and Its Applications”, World Scientific, 2001, having been a bestsellerer for many years, is used as a textbook in almost all universities of Europe, America, Asia, Australia and Africa. The book is the main textbook on artificial intelligence, fuzzy logic and soft computing and neural networks. Another his famous book “Soft Computing and Its Applications in Business and Economics”, Springer, 2004, also has become a bestseller and is included as a main textbook in syllabi of many universities of the world. Developed by Prof. R.A. Aliev Coordination Theory in Multiagent Systems, fuzzy logics ALI 1, ALI 2, ALI 3 and fundamentals of Generalized Theory of Stability are widely known and popular in the scientific world. The basic founded theories and scientific achievements of Prof. R.A. Aliev have been applied in metallurgy, chemical industry, machine building industry, oil industry, conflictology, economy, and aerospace field. In particular, fuzzy logics ALI 1, ALI 2, ALI 3 have been applied for diagnosis and control of space objects (in Russia). A considerable part of his ideas, founded concepts, as well as theoretical and practical results have been published in SCI and SCI Expanded journals. These contributions have been derived during Prof. R.A. Aliev’s work in University of Siegen (Germany), Georgia State University (USA), The Control Problems Institute of Academy of Sciences of USSR and Azerbaijan State Oil Academy.
